For reference, I run a 5 year old machine with 8GB of RAM w/ 2GB of dedicated graphics card. I personally don't think this app requires much machine spec, and you're able to create large documents with many layers. I would consider this app as equivalent to Photoshop, but catered for illustrator's needs and at a cheaper price. I will try to mostly touch on the apps, but my review is more of a mix between the app and the hardware. I use CSP, Procreate & Adobe, hopefully I can help with some insights. I still use SAI for color if I don't want to load up CSP, but mostly CSP. I prefer CSP, especially now that I learned some of it - but I still got way more to learn. CSP is more resource intensive because it's a more powerful program than SAI. CSP has so many brushes available in their digital store that you can drown in it. The native brushes in SAI work better right off the bat for coloring if you're used to SAI's set up. Making manga/comics in it is quick and easy, the screentone options are its own section, the perspective ruler and 3D references are absolutely amazing, there is AI coloring and cleaning if you want it, and you can set up your own workflow! However, this program is not cheap, but unlike Adobe, you don't get a monthly payment. SAI is cheap - about $50, though.ĬSP is not as beginner friendly as SAI, but once the confusion goes away you quickly realize how powerful this program is. The workflow is not exactly set up for non colors, you cannot load 3D assets, the brushes aren't "smart," you can't extract tone, there is no AI features, and getting tone is rather difficult. However, I find making black and white manga/art hard on SAI. This can give a wide range of brush effects if you play around with the settings. It has an easy set up and brushes that are surprisingly complex in their settings. SAI is nice because it's lighter on the computer, so if you have a not super high end laptop, SAI can run easily. I also really like watercolor-like shading thats sort of a mix between blending and cell shading but i just cant get that effect with FA. My issues with FA are mostly that it just doesnt have enough brush options or features like Sai's line correcting effect (not sure what it's called). If it's helpful to know, digitally i do mostly cartoons, but i'd love to branch out into digital painting and more detailed work. the three mentioned in the title are the contenders, as I've seen great things about all three and my favorite artists use these.
